Our History
Film Commission Cuba, in aliance with the Asociación Cubana del Audiovisual (ACAV) was established in 1999 as a non-profit, non-political organization tasked with the goal to promote and develop the Cuban independent film industry
As a cultural exchange film organization, Film Commission Cuba has for over two decades promoted people-to-people, artist-to-artist collaborations with foreign productions and Cuban filmmakers for the promotion of film and television projects in Cuba. Film Commission Cuba also facilitates these projects in every aspect of production, from development and pre-production, all the way through to post-production. Film Commission Cuba acts as a liaison between all film service providers in Cuba and all relevant Government agencies.
In addition, Film Commission Cuba works to create opportunities for Cuban filmmakers and artists to write, produce, direct their own projects entirely within the Cuba. Through expanding educational programs, local filmmakers are trained to aide incoming producers, studios and productions at the highest levels of production.
As the Cuba’s official Film Commission, Film Commisson Cuba’s goal is to introduce Cuba as a premier location for foreign filmmakers, with the additional advantage of offering up a 40% cash rebate for qualifying filming expenditures in Cuba, under its Film Cuba Incentive Program.
